We are a vibrant multicultural community. We embrace our diversity and consider it one of our greatest strengths and challenges. In a world which often divides us, AVP builds community. Dedicated to non-violence we look beyond our differences and come together to share our skills, knowledge and vision of hope.
New York Times article interviews Bronx AVP facilitator Yanina Calderon! Here's the link: http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/02/10/seeking-calm-in-themselves-and-on-the-street/ Here's a transcript of a 1991 interview the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation did with Steve Angell. http://www.allinonefilms.com/html_pages/angel.htm Henry Rivera writes of the AVP International Gathering, October 1 - 8, 2011 in Antigua, Guatemala. Click here for the report. To our AVP family: We are at an important crossroads for AVP/New York. The reality is that many of the people who put their time, energy and money into building what was an AVP program at Green Haven into a vigorous state-wide organization have now passed away, and those who came after them are now aging and moving on with their lives. It is exciting that younger people are joining us, especially those who were incarcerated formerly, but the present economic reality keeps them from giving the total commitment of those who started AVP/New York. (Forum Day is Saturday April 9 in Auburn Prison.) All AVP people are invited to all AVP/NY board council meetings. Hope to see you there! Forum Day is an opportunity for AVP/NY board council people and active facilitators to visit with the inside team (and participate in a program led by the inside team) of one of our active prison programs.

Dear AVP New York Facilitator,
You are invited to attend our annual Forum Day--this year at Sullivan Prison.
Each Spring AVP New York outside (civilian) facilitators gather at one of the NYS prisons where we have an active program and spend the day with the inside (incarcerated) facilitators. The inside team creates the program for the day.
You must be a registered volunteer with a prison in NYS in order to participate in Forum Day.
Please contact the AVP NY office to register and for more information.
